The Orchards

About

Where it is/ What Plant/Tree life to look out for: There are three orchards to be found thorough out the park.

Our main Orchard (Apple) can be found on the southwest side of our playing field. Planted with a wide variety of apple trees like Gala, Bramley, Fiesta, Braeburn and Cox. These are complimented with pear, plum, apricot, quince, meddler and cherry trees. A young but ambitious orchard.

Feel free to help yourself when the signs indicate it is ok to do so. We only ask that you think of, respect others, and do no harm to the well-being of the trees.

The second of our orchards can be found to the Northwest side of our playing field, near the Table tennis area. Called The Plum Grove, the name tells the story. It’s an area planted with mostly plum trees but with a few other species like Rowan and Horse Chestnut for variety.

The third, called The Food Forest, can be found in The Avenue. A small early work in progress it has presently been started with Cherry trees and Type of Apple trees. The expectation is that these can add further biodiversity for the pollinators in the area.

What Insect/Bird/Animal life to look out for: The orchard attracts a wide variety of wild visitors, but our most popular guest are pollinators like bees and butterflies. Then there are the birds like woodpigeons and blackbirds to be found sharing in the fruity bounty.
